Him:

So, we just had pizza at Touch of Italy in Lewes, and we have to start with a disclosure: we have a very deep, long-lasting emotional connection to Touch of Italy. It was after we moved from New Jersey to Maryland and we missed the pizza in New Jersey. That's when Touch of Italy first opened.

Her:

And the Italian deli.

Him:

Yes, we missed the Italian deli experience. Touch of Italy opened in 2010. Not long after it opened, we traveled down to Lewes for a week. We went to Touch of Italy, and it was like a revelation, right?

Her:

Fresh mozzarella was the first tip off.

Him:

Fresh mozz. It has the pizza sauce that we came to know in New York and New Jersey. It was also the experience. Even the owners were New Yorkers. They used to ship in their food from Arthur Avenue in The Bronx.

Her:

So, we really connected with it. Alright! Let's talk about the pizza. Crust is the best: crispy, chewy, tasty, salty. You can really taste the wood-fired oven in the crust.

Him:

And one of the things I like most about the pizza is it doesn't fall apart. It's well built. The cheese doesn't slide onto the plate. The slice stays together.

We had a cheese pizza. We also had a pepperoni pizza. The pepperoni was crunchy, salty, flavorful, and not too greasy, although a little bit greasy, because that's why you get pepperoni.

Her:

A little spicy, but the perfect amount of spice, and it was like a little cup of flavor because the oil dripped into the middle of it.

Him:

And the cheese was creamy. It was salty. It stuck with the sauce. I should say the sauce was a little sweet. You used the word while we were eating it: it was "bright." The sauce had a lot of flavor, it was really rich. You could taste the tomatoes.

Her:

I also think the cheese was milky. You could almost taste the milk in the creaminess.

Him:

Okay, so let me also say the service at Touch of Italy is excellent. It's not just because I have a crush on the waitress. It's because the wait staff are really attentive.

Her:

They're really good at their jobs. They know what they're doing. They don't hover over you.

Him:

They don't grab the fork out of your hands. They bring the food out fairly quickly. And they generate a really, really good quality experience while you're there.

Okay. So, on a scale of 0 to 8 slices, what score are you going to give Touch of Italy?

Her:

Ooh, I don't know. I'm not sure I was prepared for this part yet. I want to give it 8 slices, but I also feel like it's unfair because we haven't been anywhere else yet to compare.

Him:

Okay, but you can give it 8 slices and we can review it again later. It's not like we won't each at TOI again.

Her:

Okay. Then, I'm going to give it 8 slices out of a possible 8 slices.

Him:

Okay, so I'm going to give it 7 slices out of 8 slices. And the reason I'm giving it 7 slices is because Touch of Italy serves a Neapolitan Pizza and I just love New York style pizza. That's the style I grew up with. So, this is a little bit different. It's not bad, but it's not the same for me. The pizza ideal; that's really what I want. Of course, that's the pizza that I grew up with and fell in love with when I was a kid. I only really get it when I'm back in New York.

Her:

If that's the scale, I'm giving Touch of Italy an 18, because the pizza I grew up with was Pizza Hut.

Him:

And somehow you survived. Okay, that's our review of Touch of Italy in Lewes, Delaware.
